Elden Ring: Shadow of The Erdtree is one of the biggest DLC FromSoftware has ever made. In fact, it may be the biggest DLC for a game yet. Hidetaka Miyazaki has made us a masterpiece with new bosses, weapons, and all sorts of new content that completely wowed us. But these new bosses are extremely powerful and difficult to defeat, and you may need to buy Elden Ring Runes to level up your class. The new bosses, especially the memory bosses, are some of the most well-designed bosses in video games, and while some of them are polarizing among the fanbase, fighting them is still fun. The difficulty has been turned up to 11, and some of them are more cinematic and beautiful than any in the base game.
Promised Consort Radahn
It’s ironic that the final boss of the series is at the bottom of this list, but it’s not because the fight isn’t as exciting as the others. With the new version of Radahn, Elden Ring fans are divided, and some believe that the final boss should be someone other than Radahn.
Regardless, he’s at the bottom because he’s just too difficult. You’ll probably need a lot of Elden Ring Runes for sale to beat him, and you’ll have to keep trying. Malenia is no match for Radahn from the DLC, and honestly, he’s one of those bosses that takes days to beat. The second phase is even more difficult, and in many ways is reminiscent of the Twin Princes from Dark Souls 3.
Commander Gaius
Commander Gaius is another recall boss, an interesting combination of the Dragon Tree Guard and the Kyobe Oni from Sekiro. Like any mounted boss, they’re extremely challenging, and the attacks that Gaius throws at you are extremely difficult to effectively dodge. If you’re a new player, you’ll have to spend more runes to buy Elden Ring items to have a chance of beating him.
Like any boss in Elden Ring, Gaius is either fun or boring, depending on your build. Power-oriented players like me will find him harder than expected, even with the right amount of Scadutree Fragment upgrades. Without a doubt, he’s probably one of the best rideable bosses in Elden Ring.
Scadutree Avatar
Scadutree Avatar is probably one of the easier memory bosses in the Elden Ring DLC, which is what you’d initially think, but once you beat it once, it’ll respawn again, and then a third time, before eventually exploding in the third phase.
While it may feel like a wild boss, Scadutree Avatar has a wide variety of moves, and can have completely different moves as you go from phase to phase. It’s a fun boss fight that isn’t as unforgiving as some of the other bosses on this list, and there’s some great music in the background that makes you feel like you’re really there.
Romina Saint Of The Bud
Romina Saint Of The Bud is probably the most memorable boss in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, and one of the most nostalgic, due to its design being similar to that of Quelaag from Dark Souls. In a DLC where most bosses take upwards of ten attempts to master, Romina is a breath of fresh air, and the boss fight is artistic and fluid. While the Crimson Rot buildup is annoying, it can be easily avoided with predictable attacks, which is sure to give you a boost of confidence as you progress through the DLC.
Metyr Mother Of Fingers
A secret boss only accessible by completing the Count Ymir questline, Metyr slumbers beneath the Shadowlands, and its memories are some of the most fascinating lore associated with the Great Will since Elden Beast.
This boss fight is fun and cinematic, but the boss itself is weird and will trigger some primal urge inside of you that forces you to look away. If you do look away, you’re dead, as the fight with Metyr is no walk in the park.
Midra Lord of Raging Flames
Another optional secret boss you can fight is Midra, Lord of Raging Flames. You can find him by exploring the Abyssal Forest and reaching Midra’s mansion. Not only is this fight a spectacular one, it was teased in the game’s trailers and there’s some fascinating lore surrounding the Raging Flames.
The fight itself isn’t as difficult as the other bosses ranked below, but its beauty and stunning second stage transition puts many bosses in the base game to shame and is one of the most memorable encounters in the DLC.
Divine Beast Dancing Lion
One of the two initial bosses in the game, the Divine Beast Dancing Lion shows off what this DLC has to offer. This creature is quite divine, has a variety of attacks, and is found at the end of the Legacy of Belalut dungeon.
The highlight of this boss is the initial cutscene and epic music that elevates the fight from awesome to awesome. While you’ll fight another similar boss later in the DLC, your first Divine Beast Dancer will be memorable and a lot of fun.
Rellana Twin Moon Knight
Rellana, Twin Moon Knight is Rellana’s sister, who traveled to the Shadowlands to find Mesmer, becoming his sworn sword in the process, and resides in Ensis Castle. She’s the final boss of this place, and her fight reminds you of Pope Salivan from Dark Souls 3. The fight with her is a lot of fun and feels very fair, but you’ll definitely need to try it multiple times. It’s all worth it though, as the Elden Ring weapon you get from her memories has one of the best moves in the DLC.
Mesmer the Impaler
Mesmer the Impaler is the face of Elden Ring: Shadow Trees, and he’s built to be a villain who shows no mercy to the people he slaughters in Marika’s name.
He’s also merciless with you and will absolutely crush you, especially in his second phase, where he becomes a truly terrifying person. Not only is this fight cinematic, a recurring theme in this DLC, but it also ticks all the boxes for a tough but fair fight that makes you feel like you’re playing Elden Ring for the first time.
If you want to learn more about Elden Ring DLC, then I recommend going to IGGM, which has a lot of useful information, and they also sell Elden Ring Runs that make your game much easier, but if you’re worried about the price, then definitely go with IGGM.com. Their prices are very cheap, and you can use the coupon code “LONG” to get an extra 5% off.
Bayle The Dread
The undisputed new king of dragon boss fights in terms of difficulty is the fight with Bayle The Dread, the beast that resides at the top of Jagged Peak. His arena is already a painting, with orange hues and orange lighting, and he’s said to be the one who crippled the dragon Placidusax and lost a leg.
You’ll feel honored fighting Bayle The Dread, but frustrated every time you die, and just like the fight with Midir the Dark Eater in Dark Souls 3, you won’t be able to defeat him easily. He’s not the hardest boss in the DLC, but he’s definitely the best in other ways.
