Viking Women’s Hoops Opens NSIC Tournament Hosting Northern State

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana women’s basketball team will host an opening-round contest against the No. 5 seed from the North Division in Northern State, in the Sanford Health/NSIC Basketball tournament Wednesday inside the Sanford Pentagon, slated for a 6 p.m. tipoff. The Vikings enter as the No. 4 seed from the South Division.

About the Wolves

Northern State is 12-14 overall and finished with a 9-12 NSIC record. Last time out, NSU had split a weekend of competition, besting Minot State (83-60) on Thursday night. The Wolves returned on Saturday, dropping a contest against UMary, 92-69. The weekend split ensured the No. 5 seed in the North Division.

In the win against Minot State, two-time NSIC North Player of the week, Kailee Oliverson, had 21 points to go with seven rebounds and one block. Two Wolves joined her in double-figure scoring in Lexi Roe and Laurie Rogers at 16 points and 13 points, respectively.

Oliverson leads the Wolves with 15.6 points per game while Rogers garners 7.8 rebounds per outing.

Along with cleaning the glass, Rogers is also known for blocking shots, ranking second in the NSIC and sixth in the nation with 2.88 blocks per game.

About the Vikings

Augustana holds a 13-10 record overall with a 9-10 ledger in the loop. The Vikings most recently split a weekend of contests, falling to Sioux Falls (69-62) on Thursday night and outlasting Southwest Minnesota State (74-64) to grant the Vikings a home game in the opening round of the Sanford Health/NSIC Basketball tournament.

In the win against SMSU, the Vikings typical starting five ended in double-figure scoring, with Lauren Sees leading the team with 17 points.

Aislinn Duffy continued her double-double tenure, earning her 11th double-double of the season with 15 points and 12 rebounds in the contest.

Jennifer Aadland neared a double-double scoring 13 points to go with eight rebounds. Vishe’ Rabb and Janelle Shiffler accounted for 11 and 10 points, respectively, to round out the double-digit scoring.

In total, the quintet accounted for 66 of Augustana’s 74 points scored.

The Vikings continue to be atop the NSIC in rebounds per game averaging 40.83 per contest.

One Last Thing

This will be the first meeting between the two teams this season. The regular-season game on the schedule was canceled due to COVID-19 protocols within the Northern State women’s basketball program. In fact, the last time the two squads matched up was in the 2019-20 season, a 73-44 Viking win.
