‘Jeopardy!’ Fans Have Strong Feelings About Mayim Bialik Not Hosting Anymore

Mayim Bialik‘s time hosting weekday Jeopardy! episodes has come to an end.

While folks can still expect to see The Big Bang Theory actress host specials for the quiz show in the new year, it’s now time for Jeopardy! prodigy Ken Jennings to take his turn at the lectern. From now until 2022, Ken will be leading Jeopardy! contestants through the game as the search for a permanent weekday host continues.

Last Friday marked Mayim’s last episode hosting the show, which crowned Kate Kohn as the new Jeopardy! champion. On Twitter, it became clear that some were sad to see Mayim leave the quiz show for the time being. “Mayim Bialik, good work from you the past seven weeks. Hope to see you back soon,” one fan tweeted. “IMO @missmayim has been the BEST host of @Jeopardy since #AlexTrebek. Hire the lady full time already!” another said.

That said, there were also plenty of fans really pumped about welcoming the Jeopardy! champion back to the show. “Mayim Bialik has gotten better over the course of her run, but I’m still looking forward to @KenJennings to take over as (interim) #Jeopardy host starting Monday,” a different fan noted. “Words can not properly express how happy I am that @KenJennings will be back on #Jeopardy tonight,” another fan remarked.

Ken’s return to Jeopardy! happens to coincide with the one-year anniversary of Alex Trebek‘s death on November 8 following his stage-4 pancreatic cancer diagnosis. The late longtime host of Jeopardy! led the show for over 35 years, including when Ken set the record for most winnings ever when he took home $2,520,700 after winning 74 consecutive games. Ken, who guest hosted the show earlier this year, has long admired how well Alex was able to do his job.

“The mechanics of hosting Jeopardy! are daunting,” he told USA Today. “There’s a lot going on at once, and Alex made it all look so easy. But I can tell you firsthand, it’s not easy.”

Though the anniversary of his death will go unmentioned during Monday’s show, Alex’s legacy will surely never be forgotten.

“You can’t stand on that stage and say those things without thinking about him. Every time I’m up there, I’m doing Alex,” Ken added. “Not just because he perfected it, but because that’s the only way I’ve ever seen it done.”
